MIMRA is the guise of Icelandic singer, composer and producer María Magnúsdóttir. Her music could best be described as electro-acoustic folk-pop or orchestral pop. MIMRA performs her multi dimensional arrangements as a solo act on stage. She brilliantly sings along electronic beats and soothing synths, using loop pedals and keyboard to her aid with extravagant results.

María Magnúsdóttir graduated from Goldsmiths University of London in 2016 with a Masters degree in Popular Music, a program known for its alumni including James Blake and Rosie Lowe. In London she had the opportunity to write and produce alongside producers such as AOBeats (US), SAKIMA (GB) and Slow Shudder (US).

MIMRA’s debut single “Söngur Valkyrjunnar” (transl. Valkyrie Song) was included on the NX Records 2016 Mixtape, curated by Semi-Precious. Music blog ‘The Revue’ described the track as “glacial cool, smothering your soul in a decadent wave of synths and Magnúsdóttir’s enchanting vocals”.

MIMRA is currently based in Reykjavík, Iceland. She has taken part in all sorts of musical collaborations threading a path from soul and jazz towards electronica. Besides her solo project she is one half of electro-pop duo Early Late Twenties. MIMRA also produces music for film and media, writes for choirs and regularly performs live shows.

MIMRA ambitiously sows numerous genres and sounds together to great effect, expertly manoeuvring between delicate sparseness and powerful vivacity. Her vocals are astounding, both in terms of range and dexterity, and function as the glue which unifies the eclecticism of her music. The passion and strength of MIMRA’s voice simply cannot be ignored and aligns her with the best of them.
